The Soundtrack Project

The Soundtrack has been an ongoing project since 2006. The idea was to capture every song I had heard in my life that had some emotional relevance and/or was an instant trigger for a significant memory. After gathering all of the songs, I wanted to create chronological mixes starting with my birth year (1977).

Creating the mixes took about a year and a half: full of research, collection, and obsession from 2006 to 2008. After the completion of obtaining all the songs from my life (over 2000), I made mixes on cds of each year and listened to them in sequence over the course of several weeks.

Since then, I have continued to make ‘in real time’ mixes every year. My journey with the project and its aftermath led me to write a novel about the experience.

The Soundtrack is an idea, experience and story. Future considerations have been to develop the concept into an interactive exhibit, allowing the audience to experience the music from my life—and to possibly start their own soundtracks.
