Talkboard
Talkboard is a community based, public art exhibit that existed from May to July 2020 during the quarantine. A chalkboard made up of plywood and posts was stationed in Oak Park. Different prompts were written on the board every week; people walking by were able to use chalk left nearby and respond to the prompt on the board. The idea behind Talkboard stemmed from the collective isolation felt by our world during the pandemic.
During the summer of 2020, Talkboard became an expressive outlet in the weeks that followed after George Floyd was killed by police, where people processed their reactions and emotions toward racial injustice. Towards the end of its run, it became an open board for people to share any unprompted ideas, thoughts or artwork. Talkboard allowed for a sounding board during a tremendously complicated time in our lives, one that we will be forever changed by.
